Our Team

Well folks, here I am. My name is Robin Hirsch. I worked for thirty-nine years in the TV business as a cameraman and eventually a director of photography. During those years I also created a production gear rental business called Imagecraft which is still busy providing production gear and support services to the world of TV production in Los Angeles. I always loved writing and after I retired and sold my business I decided why not.

My first effort was a comical/fictional account of a man going through his mid-life crises. He has turned fifty and begins to feel invisible when he is around younger women. So, before it is too late he sets off on a quest to have one final fling with a twenty-something. BTW it is not biographical.

Book number two was my effort to tell the historical tale of the evolution of the technology and technique of the “image gathering business.” Having worked in that world for my entire adult life, I had had the unique experience of watching it go from 16mm film, to video tape, to digital formats. Each one provided unique challenges, the biggest of which was dealing with the old switcheroo when the industry took its plunge into a new way of doing things. It’s a great story that includes many true tales recounted by my many friends who were there alongside of me in the trenches.

Book number three is also inspired by my real life experiences. Way back when, after working at a TV station of ten years I decided to set off on a freelance career. I quit my job and off I went, eventually ending up in Los Angeles. It was quite a ride. The ups and downs of working for myself were pretty much like riding in a roller coaster. It was not easy, but with each challenge overcome, I learned. My retirement gave me time to reflect and I decided a how-to book would be very useful for those contemplating such a move. I also decided to include the stories of self-employed individuals in all sorts of livelihoods. So you will find stories from a doctor, a lawyer, a plumber, an accountant, a rabbi, a yoga instructor and many more. It is a book to be read and re-read as a reference throughout your career.

Not sure what I am going to do next, but I will be writing something for sure.
